DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Associate Director of the Office of Student Success in the School of Education, working and collaborating closely with other academic advisors within the Office of Student Success, and closely coordinating with both internal and external key constituents of the School of Education, this academic administrator provides a range of services supporting students' academic advising and alumni's credentialing processes. This person fulfills a key role in the student support functions of the School of Education through advising graduate students in the Department of Leadership and Higher Education. The University of Redlands' School of Education is committed to matters related to social justice as well as educational justice.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provides academic advising with School of Education master- and doctoral-level students on the main campus to support student learning; evaluates and resolves internal and external student inquiries, issues, and ensures appropriate action is taken. This position is specifically associated with the Department of Leadership and Higher Education.
  • Proactively liaises with the department chair, program coordinators, and faculty related to accurate knowledge of course content, different program requirements, degree conferral, academic advising, and other academic areas. As a liaison, supports, coordinates, and assess co-curricular requirements and fieldwork practices.
  • Assists students in advising related to course selections, transfer procedures, academic schedules; monitors students to ensure adequate progress toward degree completion; develops and communicates information regarding field-related expectations/professionalism/socialization, and fieldwork related components; assists students with disabilities in navigating the disability services process. Proactively consults with doctoral students and faculty to monitor dissertation writing progress.
  • Provides students with information to facilitate interpretation of institutional policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Assists in the delivery of student programs; develops and implements orientation and re-entry initiatives designed to help meet enrollment, socialization, and retention goals; assists in the development of procedures for and participation in retention initiatives such as auditing re-entry and at-risk students, monitoring attendance and follows-up, and conducting and documenting exit interviews with students dropping out/stopping out.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director of the Office of Student Success and other school administrators concerning possible problems or areas of improvement across the School, including providing organization and leadership to School functioning broadly.
  • Aids students seeking accommodations for disability services and learning disabilities in partnership with the University Student Services Department and under compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Works closely with Associate Director of the Office of Student Success to provides support in school-wide communication efforts including school newsletters, social media, and website. Supervises and works closely with graduate assistant(s) to support school-wide communications.
  • Maintains institutional confidence and safeguards operations by keeping information confidential; adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures. Works to foster a community that promotes student success.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred plus three (3) to five (5) years related experience in higher education. Background in academic advising and student services is highly desirable. The successful candidate must be highly proficient in administrative reports, analyst and manipulating data, able to demonstrate excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to work efficiently and successfully with minimum supervision; prioritize and handle multiple tasks and deadlines; be creative and flexible. Valid driver's license required. Upon offer of employment, a current DMV printout showing a good driving record will be required. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
