Overview:
Assist the Head Softball Coach with the coaching and developing a nationally competitive Division I Softball team. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: coaching student-athletes; recruiting; game management; scouting; academic monitoring; practice organization, player development, facility management; camps; compliance, travel; equipment purchasing and distribution. In addition to other administrative duties as assigned.

Position Summary:
  • Assists head coach in evaluating student-athletes performance and design instructional opportunities to improve technical and strategic execution based on sound motor learning and biomechanical principles.
  • Assists head coach in developing and implement a recruitment plan to identify, manage and sign top-tier student athletes.
  • Assists head coach in creating and reinforcing an environment of academic achievement, expectation, and success that supports and encourages academic progress and graduation; monitor the academic progress of student athletes; monitor class attendance and study halls as seen necessary.
  • Assists head coach in coaching team competitive events. Assumes full team responsibility for organizing and conducting competitive events.
  • Ensures adherence to all governing rules, university, department, conference, NCAA policies and procedures, including student- athlete benefits.
  • Proposes the strategies, goals and objectives for the sports program on a short and long-term basis.
  • Represents and promotes professional conduct, university will and high standards at all promotional and media related events including games.
  • Participate in fundraising activities for the program and development.
  • Maintains an effective channel and level of communication and follow-through, with sport administrators, support services.

    Major duties of the job include:
  • On field duties of hitting, infield or outfield
  • On field and in cage pitching
  • On field hitting and fungo hitting for player and team development
  • Practice planning and periodization of offense and defensive workouts.
  • Analyze performance, provide feedback and instruct participants in program strategies and techniques to prepare them for competition
  • Observe players while they perform at practice/games, provide feedback for individual or team improvement
  • Manage and operate technology effectively to enhance player and team development
  • Handle paperwork and related administrative responsibilities in a thorough, complete, timely manner and adhere to university and department fiscal procedures and practices
  • Manage, and facilitate maintenance of the softball facility for practice, games and tournaments
  • Communicate and work effectively with campus facilities on the day to day operations of softball facility
  • Management of equipment budget, ordering, processing and distribution
  • Assist in management of Team Travel such as budget, organizing food, air, bus and vans for road trips
  • Assist in the recruitment of prospective athletes on and off campus within the framework of the university,
    department, conference and NCAA

    Secondary Duties of the job include:
  • Assist head coach with academics
  • Assist in the organizing and facilitating of camps/clinics
  • Assist head coach with community relations
  • Assist head coach with booster club activities
  • Assist head coach in fundraising
  • Assist head coach in scheduling
  • Assist in Social Media and Sports Information Communication

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Required Knowledge:
  • Either played competitively or have specialized knowledge working with hitters, infield or outfield for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

    Required Skills & Ability To:
  • Have strong communication and motivation skills
  • Ability to support the equity and diversity commitments of the department and University
  • Cooperation professionally and collegiality with the media, the community, the University and the Athletic Department staff and administration
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations

    Education and Experience:
    Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education which is accredited by one of the six U.S. regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education

    Required Experience:
  • Previous college softball OR baseball OR professional OR National Team experience whether it be playing or coaching OR success coaching at the high school or travel ball level for a minimum of two (2) years

    Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office, Google sheets, Google pages
  • Ability to use technology for programing, analysis, breakdown and player development
  • Recruiting ties and professional relationships with prospective travel ball and high school coaches
  • Experience using online recruiting and compliance database software
