Description:

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Professor in the area of Immunization Studies. The expected start date is July 1st, 2021 or earlier. The successful candidate is also eligible to be appointed as the Director of the School’s Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases, for a 5-year term, beginning July 1, 2021 or earlier with the possibility of renewal.

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is seeking a scholar with the demonstrated ability to lead large-scale immunization research and education initiatives with demonstrable impacts. This position relates directly to the diverse set of opportunities for research and training that are emerging across the University of Toronto and in partnership with academic and policy institutions in multiple regions. Candidates must have a PhD in Public Health or a related field, or an equivalent doctoral degree such as an MD or DVM, with strong research or professional experience in public health work, and a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research, knowledge transfer and teaching related to immunization. We seek candidates whose teaching and research interests complement and strengthen our existing strengths (see http://www.dlsph.utoronto.ca/).

The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge of and experience in research or professional leadership in any area relevant to improving immunization including but not limited to clinical epidemiology, health policy, clinical guidelines, or implementation science. A clear understanding of equities and inequities in immunization practices will be a substantial asset. The successful applicant will also have established connections and a demonstrated ability to communicate with senior academics, policy makers, donors and other key decision-makers in the immunization and vaccine preventable diseases arena within and outside of Canada. They will also have the demonstrated ability to work with and bring together scholars from across disciplines (e.g. economics, law, social work and business). The applicant will have prior experience working with governance structures, managing teams of professional and administrative staff, and establishing standards or guidelines at a provincial, federal or global level. The successful candidate must have the demonstrated ability, as evidenced through the application materials, to assist the Faculty in building an area of research strength and public impact in vaccine preventable diseases.

The candidate will be expected to sustain and lead their own innovative and independent research program at the highest international level and to maintain a program of professional and public education that improves immunization practices at a provincial, federal and international level. They will be expected to conduct trans-disciplinary collaborative research with colleagues at the DLSPH, the University of Toronto and with partner organizations.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence as demonstrated by a sustained record of high-impact publications in relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished grants and awards, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, a teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and the teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
