Temporary Research Technician
TemporaryEssential Job Duties:
The objectives of this research are to assist with data collection to assess the status of a small population of Henslow’s Sparrows in eastern North Carolina, determine their genetic distinctiveness from other populations, and quantify their response to fire management in the region. The research technician will be involved in the collection and cataloging of field data,
and data entry in electronic format for subsequent analyses. Collection of data includes distance
sampling, mist-netting, banding, and Cellular tracking of sparrows, sampling vegetation (type, cover, etc.) throughout the field site, and deployment of acoustic recorders at various locations in eastern North Carolina. The technician will gain experience in a variety of field techniques and sampling. The technician will also interact with scientists, students, and staff from the North
Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

-BS in Science (wildlife, environmental sciences, ornithology)Department Required Skills:
-Must be able to learn quickly, take direction, and be meticulous and precise in their work
-Must be able to conduct field work in grassland habitats
-Must be willing and able to work in a small team, spend long hours outdoors, and take meticulous notes
-Ability to do word processing and data entry on database spreadsheets (e.g., excel) and basic summarization of data (e.g., descriptive statistics)
-Must be organized, professional, self-motivated, able to receive instruction and carry out detailed tasks
-Ability to work well in both independent and group settings
-Field experience with songbirds in grassland habitats preferredRequired License or Certification:
