Job Summary

Postdoctoral Fellow appointments are full time and limited term (recommended to be 1-3 years, with a maximum of 5 years). A Postdoctoral Fellow's responsibilities are substantially research and/or scholarship, but may combine these responsibilities with formal instructional responsibilities (typically no more than 50% effort). Postdoctoral Fellows must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate, typically within the past 5 years, and must be supervised/mentored by a faculty member. Postdoctoral Fellows are considered to be Research Faculty without faculty governance voting privileges.


Synthesis development, execution, and optimization for pharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical intermediates are the primary tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for local laboratory work and creating reports of results and communicating these to other team members and administration of a large, diverse multi-university research consortium. Oversight and guidance of less experienced researchers in the group may also be required as efforts in the local laboratory expand. A knowledge of and ability to apply advanced spectroscopic and characterization methods including NMR, uv-vis, MS are necessary. Successful candidates must be highly motivated self-starters with an ability to interact with a diverse international research team having collaboration partners in laboratories around the world. Fluency in English is required.

PhD or equivalent terminal degree

Preferred Qualifications

Years of experience: Minimum of two years experience in organic synthesis. Experience working on high vacuum lines with sealed glass equipment is preferred. Experience with photochemical transformations and a desire to learn additional light driven chemistry would be advantageous. The work may include synthetic design and refinement of processes associated with the production of advanced pharmaceutical intermediates (APIs) in collaboration with the Medicines for All Institute. Fluency in German is highly desired.
