Seeking a full-time, entry-level Professional ResearchAssistant (PRA) to join a research laboratory within the Department ofCraniofacial Biology, School of Dental Medicine. The successful candidate willcontribute to projects exploring receptor tyrosine kinase signaling inmammalian craniofacial development. The laboratoryutilizes an array of complementary approaches such as bimolecular fluorescencecomplementation, phosphoproteomics, conditional mutagenesis in the mouse embryo,next-generation sequencing and in vitroprimary cell activity assays to explore novel aspects of craniofacial biologyand ultimately provide therapeutic directions aimed at the prevention of humanbirth defects such as cleft lip and palate.

The PRA will perform mousehusbandry and genotyping via PCR, prepare frozen/paraffin sections of mouseembryos for histological and expression analyses, assist in molecular cloning, preparecommon solutions and stocks, maintain laboratory databases, place laboratoryorders and contribute to laboratory compliance. Additional responsibilities mayinclude independent experiments that contribute to the laboratory’s goal ofdetermining the effect of receptor tyrosine kinase signaling on gene expressionand cell activity in the craniofacial mesenchyme. Other duties will be asassigned.

The PRA should be highly motivated and able towork independently, but cooperatively, within a research laboratoryenvironment. The position requires exceptional organizational skills,record-keeping abilities and attention to detail. The PRA should be able toclearly and effectively communicate with the research teamand is expected to fully participate in laboratory meetings and journal clubs.

The ideal candidate will possess abachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of relevant laboratory researchexperience. The candidate must be willing to work with laboratory mice andprimary cell cultures. Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCRis required. Experience with mouse dissections, histology, immunofluorescenceanalysis, molecular cloning and/or cell culture is highly desirable.

Minimum Requirements

·       Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree.

·       Minimum of 2 years’ experience in research laboratory setting.

·       Willingness to work with laboratory mice and primary cell cultures.

·       Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR is required.

·       Excellent communication skills in English and exceptional organizational skills.

·       Ability to work independently, but cooperatively, within a research lab.
