Position Summary:

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina is seeking a full-time Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to work in the Emergency Department as part of the Psychiatric Emergency Service. The Clinical Social Worker is responsible for the screening, ongoing evaluation, and treatment of patients presenting with mental health or substance abuse complaints. The professional will augment the primary health care physician in making psychiatric diagnosis and providing psychiatric treatment including but not limited: risk assessment, psychiatric diagnosis, providing supportive therapy and providing resources and disposition collaboration with the multi -disciplinary crisis team. This position functions within the Emergency Department setting. Applicants should be fully licensed in the state of North Carolina. Strong preference will be given to applicants with hospital psychiatric emergency department experience and current NC 1st Commitment Examiner certification. The position is a variable schedule with rotating shifts. LCSW-As will be considered if they have the experience listed above and have taken and passed the NC clinical licensure exam.

Educational Requirements:

Masters degree in Social Work and licensed in the state of North Carolina.

Qualifications and Experience:

One year of professional social work experience, preferably in emergency and crisis situations.
