The UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School has an enrollment of approximately 2,700 professional undergraduate and graduate students. The Business School provides academic and student development services for current and prospective students, as well as faculty and staff. Specific services include: prospective student recruitment and admissions; academic services, including academic advising, course scheduling, and graduation; new student orientation; student life and engagement programs, such as student clubs and organizations, case competitions and other community-building opportunities; study abroad and other global program experiences; and career development programs. Business school is an intense, demanding, and stressful environment for students. Stress can manifest itself in a number of ways, and often intervention is needed to help students find healthy ways to counteract stress and anxiety. Developing health habits for handling stress is a professional skill that will support/propel/aid graduates into their future careers in the business world.
The Student Wellness Coach will steward an environment that will foster the development of lifelong skills for achieving and maintaining optimal physical and mental health for Kenan-Flagler students. This position will advise and counsel students on physical and mental health wellness. This position will primarily work with the approximately 1500 students enrolled in MBA Program. The coach is responsible for providing brief mental health and wellness assessments and when appropriate, work with the student to develop and implement a plan for healthy habits and overall wellness which may include return visits and coordination of referrals to appropriate medical and mental health services, as needed. Student Wellness Coach responsibilities and services include, but not limited to counseling, nutrition, fitness, mental health, disability, accessibility, health education, prevention, and other wellness related services. The coach will be responsible for developing and implementing, events, activities, programs and policies to promote and support overall student well-being and academic success.
This individual will have the necessary authority to articulate a strategic vision for championing a healthy environment for all students in the MBA Program and will be responsible for leading institutional efforts to improve student mental health and wellness. The Student Wellness Coach will act as a liaison to faculty and staff providing guidance and support and will identify needs for program development. This position will work closely with the UNC Counseling and Psychological Service and other campus services.Educational Requirements:
Minimum of a Master of Social Work, Master of Counseling, or Master of Higher Education degree with coursework related to the area of assignment.Qualifications and Experience:
-Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
-Three or more years of experience as a social work practitioner, counselor or higher education professional is required.
-Some evenings and weekends
-Experience working with adult learners in an academic college/University setting
-Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to health care delivery systems including HIPAA, FERPA, and the Jeanne Cleary Act.
-Knowledge of emerging issues and trends in the field of mental health, student health, wellness and accessibility.
