Job Description:

The OPS Communications and Events Assistant is responsible for providing support to the South HIV and Alcohol Research Consortium (SHARC) Marketing and Communications Specialist through a variety of projects including website monitoring and maintenance, social media support, virtual programs support and other duties as assigned. The OPS Communications and Events Assistant will report to the SHARC Marketing and Communications Specialist.

Position Responsibilities include the following:

  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of the SHARC website and use of WordPress to: update webpages, upload new blog posts, add new publications and presentations, and more.
  • Produce the weekly electronic newsletter, SHARC BITES, to include reaching out to key sources for content and images.
  • Support SHARC virtual events including Research Seminars, PDP meetings, SHARC PDP Semester Celebrations, and special events by designing and circulating electronic advertising/communications pieces.
  • Create content for social and blog posts that represent SHARC research, training, and community engagement efforts and achievements.
  • Attend SHARC virtual events to troubleshoot participant questions around logging in via ZOOM, meeting/event logistics, etc and to monitor and track participant attendance.
  • Attend and support SHARC Community Engagement meetings and end-of-year Virtual Community Engagement opportunity.
  • Prepare visual documents and infographics to convey the research and work happening at SHARC.
  • Maintain SHARC Faculty, Staff, Student, and Affiliate listservs.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

$10.00-$15.00 per hour, commensurate with education, skills and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Enrollment or recent completion of a Communications, Graphic Design, Psychology, Health Education, Public Health or similar bachelor’s degree program
  • Understanding of basic graphic design principles
  • Demonstrated competence in producing creative, informative, grammar and error-free text in the English language

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates possess the following:

  • Ability to work independently and to complete assigned tasks according to SHARC and supervisor guidelines and deadlines
  • Organized, dependable, detail-oriented
  • Creative and flexible team player
  • Motivated to learn quickly and to become proficient in this role in support of SHARC
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva and WordPress
  • Understanding of basic graphic design principles
  • Event coordination experience

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Work Schedule: M-F, four hours daily between 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
