Assistant Professor Position, African American History before 1830, History Department

The Department of History at Middlebury College invites applications for an assistant professorship in African American history before 1830, to begin Fall 2021. The successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to teach a variety of pre-1830 courses of their own design as well as chronologically broader courses including a survey of African American history. Expected teaching load will include 2 courses each fall and spring term, as well as a 4-week winter term course in alternating years, with an overall average of 90 students/year. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant new Black Studies Program and the First Year Seminar Program. The position is open to applicants who will complete the PhD no later than September 2021. Consideration of applications will begin on December 7, 2020, with preliminary online interviews in January 2021.
