Position Summary:

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the university.

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Windows Services Group, the Windows Systems Administrator applies skills as an experienced Windows systems administrator to support operations of the Windows Services Group and to work on projects involving various Microsoft technologies, security remediations, network design, and integration. Possesses a full understanding of industry best practices and campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues that are moderately complex in scope. Selects methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Evaluates new technologies including performing simple to moderate cost / benefit analyses and server lifecycle management. Manages projects that involve large systems optimization and fine-tuning, risk analysis and remediation, and process improvement.

Required:

Minimum 3 to 5 years work experience in an IT related position required.

Three (3) to five (5) years relevant experience with BA/BS in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience OR equivalent experience.

Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

Foster relationships among technical peers, department leads, and other units on campus. Collaborate effectively to achieve positive outcomes with the campus community on projects and tasks.

Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.

Seeks out opportunities to get work done, to initiate and act, and adapt to changes in the environment. Seeks out opportunities for continuous improvement and providing additional value that may not necessarily be part of the stated job duties.

Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner. The ability to think ahead when solving problems or managing projects.

Experience with Nessus Tenable. Experience with Microsoft PowerShell.

Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.

General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent / related functions.

Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.

Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing Microsoft server-based software.

Experience administering Microsoft Server Operating Systems. Experience working with Microsoft Active Directory. Experience administering Microsoft Office 365 & Azure Cloud. Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) & Operations Manager (SCOM).

Experience with industry security controls and principles (e.g. NIST 161-800 and the ability to apply them in a Windows Server/Active Directory/Office 365 environment).
