Position Summary:

The Office of Global Engagement is responsible for developing UCI's global strategy and tactical partnerships with international academic institutions, corporations, and governments to establish collaborations and exchanges that further the university's teaching, research and public service mission. The Office of Global Engagement provides strategic planning and support for UCI's engagement with the world outside the United States. While promoting UCI's reputation around the world, it assists the Chancellor and Provost in defining objectives and plans for collaboration on international education, research, and service with institutions in other countries. Under the minimal direction of the Chief Global Affairs Officer, the International Agreements Officer is independently responsible for the development and execution of highly complex international academic agreements. Consults with faculty and staff seeking to initiate agreements and assists them in clarifying international collaboration details and terms. Identifies issues that might arise due to differences in international laws or institutional policies, or for other reasons. Works closely with Office of Campus Counsel and other administrative campus units to identify and resolve issues and ensure compliance with UC and UCI policies. Prepares agreement drafts and counsels initiators during negotiation with partner institutions. Serves as the primary record keeper for OGE for archives and reporting. Maintains databases for OGE including agreements, partnership records, customer relationship activities, student records among others. Prepares internal and external reports for compliance, marketing, strategy and other purposes. Coordinates with other units for record-keeping and reporting as needed. Responsible for maintaining complete accurate and updated records and ensuring software generates reports that are compatible with other campus unit and external stakeholders.

Required:

9 - 10 years with BA/BS, or 1 - 2 years with JD/MA/MS, or equivalent experience

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Demonstrated computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite of applications; including word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail and web browser software. Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; advanced ability to deal with broad and diverse constituencies using advanced customer service orientation and skills.

Advanced organizational, presentation and negotiation skills.

Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure, goals, mission, rules, policies, guidelines, etc.

Advanced knowledge and understanding of specific contracting assignments.

Advanced knowledge of contracting principles and practices, methods and procedures used in competitive procurement, including value analysis, and source selection techniques.

Advanced listening, political acumen skills and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.

Preferred:

Juris Doctorate (JD) or paralegal certificate.

Exposure to international law concepts.

Experience in an intercultural setting.

Advanced knowledge of contract law, the California Public Contract Code and an advanced understanding of University's Business and Finance Bulletins and other relevant rules, guidelines, policies and practices.
