About the College/Unit/Department:

As the 4th largest public college of education in the country and the 3rd largest college at UGA, the Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFE COE) improves the lives of residents of Georgia and beyond through our instruction, research, and service. The MFE COE is a comprehensive college with disciplines focused on teacher preparation, counseling and human development, communication sciences, human movement sciences, career development, student affairs, and educational administration and policy. We place significant emphasis on graduate education with approximately 40% of our students at the graduate level, making us the second largest college at UGA with respect to graduate education.
Named for Mary Frances Early, UGA’s first African American graduate, in February 2020, the MFE COE has a long and distinguished history as a leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Position Summary:

The faculty in Social Studies Education seeks to promote social equity, democracy, and ambitious PreK-12 social education through our work with diverse community partnerships, teachers, teacher candidates, teacher educators, and researchers. The candidate who fills this position would join the Department of Mathematics and Science Education which houses the programs and faculty in Social Studies Education. The programs in Social Studies Education include initial certification programs at the bachelor’s and master’s level and graduate programs that lead to M.Ed., Ed.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Faculty in these programs attract and support national and international doctoral students, collaborate with colleagues across the nine departments of the college, and work in close partnership with local school districts.

Additional Requirements:

•Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Social Studies Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Teacher Education, or related field from an accredited university (ABD will be considered, terminal degree conferred by the start of appointment).
•Three or more years of teaching experience in PreK-12 settings.

•An active record of scholarship and productivity commensurate with experience.
•Strong potential for seeking and attracting external funding.
•Familiarity through instruction or research with current trends and cultural contexts in US schools.
•Research expertise in one or more of the following:
oissues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
ocivics education of young children
ointer/disciplinary inquiry (such as in history, geography, civics education, political science, economics)
olarge scale studies of issues related to social education
