Schedule: Hours vary based on tutor's class schedule and needs of students. Maximum 20 hours/week. Current work plan: Work will be mix of Remote/Virtual and On-Site. On-Site work would only begin once approved by College Leadership.

Job Description:

Position Overview: Supplement learners' academic performance to improve/enhance grades in the subject/content matter. 

1) Works effectively with tutees (clients) during scheduled tutoring sessions communicating a high level of content knowledge in assigned discipline.
2) Provides content area assistance: reviews material, instructions, identifies errors, and provides ways for students to improve their assignments/grades. 
3) Answers appropriate homework questions and provides excellent examples. 
4) Independently assesses student's understanding of tutored materials and adjusts materials and tutor session as needed. 
5) Models good study skills. 
6) Maintains a 3.0 GPA or higher. 
7) Maintains documentation of tutoring activities. 
8) Establishes supportive peer-relationships with tutees (clients). 
9) Work with other tutors, faculty and staff. 
10) Attends scheduled tutoring sessions on time and maintains documentation as needed. 
11) Participates in training sessions each term and maintains documentation as needed.  
12) Performs other duties as needed.   

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
Knowledge of: specified course material at a high level.

Skill in: communication and interpersonal skills; effective study habits; being dependable.

Ability to: take a difficult concept, breakdown the concept into it's smallest parts and explain the concept to a student who is new to the course content; work well in small groups; work independently with little to no supervision assuring tutoring standards are met to the satisfaction of the department; work effectively and respectfully with students from all backgrounds regardless of race, ethnicity, orientation, family background, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires that any applicant be enrolled as a current student at Columbus State in three or more credit hours in a degree or certificate seeking program. Click here for a full explanation of eligibility requirements for student employment at Columbus State.

Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109. 

Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.

Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and received an "A" or "B" in the course you wish to tutor. Must obtain instructor recommendation.

Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
A desire to learn and help others to learn too.
Previous tutoring or volunteer experience.

Additional Information:  NOTE: This is a pool position. This means a position may not be immediately available, but the department will review applicants when a position is open.
