Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:30am to 6:30pm--some weekends; No more than 40 hrs per week. Work on campus and off campus at either North Linden Elementary: 1718 E Cooke Rd. or Prairie Norton Elementary: 105 Norton Rd.

Position Summary

 The English as a Second Language (ESL) Afterschool Communities (ESLAsC) Site Specialist assists in supporting and monitoring a team of tutors, teachers, parents, community members, and volunteers to run an afterschool program for immigrant and refugee elementary students. This position is tasked with assisting in the development, design, and monitoring of day to day program operations, ensuring an engaging, positive and safe environment for students to experience academic, social and emotional success. This role requires an ability to prioritize tasks and curriculum development. This position will also require data collection, analysis and reporting of grant outcomes and other clerical duties. Individuals in this role with work a portion of their time on campus and off campus at the afterschool program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

PROGRAM COORDINATION SUPPORT
Assists in developing, designing and coordinating program components that lead to positive academic and social outcomes for participating students. Provides engaging opportunities through academic, social and physical activities. Develop and maintains a safe, supportive learning environment for participating students. Recruits and retains students to participate in an ESLAsC program. Communicates and resolves issues related to the program in a timely manner. Creates and maintains discussions for program and student improvement. Assists in development and implementation of group lesson plans. Assists with data collection, data analysis, and communication activities.

BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS
Assists in developing and supporting a team that involves non-credit instructors, tutors, host-site volunteers, parents, students, teachers, community and corporate leaders. Assist in developing positive and professional relationships with school staff, parents and community. Attends school, community and student events. Assists in classrooms, fieldtrips, and school improvements. Produces quarterly newsletters. Assists in developing and sharing ESLAsC vision and goals with staff and community partners. Assists in positive promotion of ESLAsC throughout the College and community. Assists in leveraging resources and developing partnerships and collaborations.

OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Effectively monitors site operations, including assisting in timely completion and submission of accurate reports to funder. Organizes and guides instruction implementation and supervision of students. Participates in staff development that contributes to personal and professional growth. Actively participates in all staff support activities and workshops.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Executes multiple assignments of varying complexity, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Hours may include working outside of a normal workweek schedule on an as needed basis. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: English word usage, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation; computer software, programs and applications; child development; refugee/immigrant experience; k-12 education systems.

Skill in: excellent verbal and written communication; organization; customer service; conflict resolution; application of job software including word processing and spreadsheets; performing mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimals, percentages and fractions; planning & scheduling; collaborating with community and educational agencies.

USUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 10 pounds when moving files, boxes and other materials.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Virtual or typical office and school environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices and school buildings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Two (2) years’ progressively responsible experience in assisting program development and support. Experience working in diverse settings. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
