The department of Pathology is actively seeking two per-diem Sr. Medical Technologists to work in Aventura. The Sr. Medical Technologist performs Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiological, Molecular biological and Immunological clinical tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Moreover, the incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Verifies identification of specimen with physicians’ orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
- Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results.
- Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
- Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
- Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems.
- Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
- Assumes lead duties and acts as a resource to staff.
- Orients and trains employees on laboratory techniques and operations.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Analyze the quality assurance metrics of the cytology laboratory.
- Evaluate the cytotechs competency and workload
- Perform a cytology / histology correlation and statistics analysis based on subtype
- Assess the GYN statistics of the cytology laboratory based on CAP metrics
- Recognize inconsistencies on Copath reports to modify statistics accordingly
- Prepare all QA documents required based on CAP checklists
- Participates in continuing Performance Improvement to ensure continuous improvement of services provided.
- Attends appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge.
- Participates in required educational program, including HIS, safety, infection control, etc.
- Follows hospital-wide and unit specific safety and infection control standards.

- Associate’s degree in relevant field required.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Possession of current/valid Florida State Medical Technologist License in the areas of: Hematology, Chemistry, Immunohematology, Immunology and Microbiology required.
- Laboratory Computer knowledge required.
