The UCLA Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) invites applications for a position of Project Scientist. Research emphasis will be on quantifying relationships between the carbon, water, and energy cycles through use of simple models and/or assimilation of satellite, and ground data with Earth system or land models, as well as using these relationships to improve seasonal to decadal estimates of fire and drought risk. The project scientist will work and coordinate with professors, scientists, postdocs, and graduate students from multiple institutions for this purpose (including UCLA, Caltech, and JPL).
Required qualifications include: Candidates must have the following qualifications: 1) Ph.D. in one of the earth science disciplines or in related fields in physics, and minimum of 15 years in relevant fields, 2) extensive knowledge and expertise of remote sensing, data assimilation, and Earth System processes as demonstrated through publications and presentations, 3) excellent written and verbal communication skills.

In the 2007 edition of U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center was ranked best in the West, as well as one of the top 3 hospitals in the United States alongside Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
