Summary of Duties:

The Executive Writer is responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive public relations and communication strategies and other related activities for the Vice President of University Advancement/CEO of the Washington State University Foundation (VP/CEO). This position develops, researches, writes, edits, and coordinates complex original content for use in multiple communication media to promote and/or inform target audiences about University Advancement and/or Washington State University Foundation.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, mass communications or a relevant field AND three (3) years of professional experience in print or broadcast news media, public relations or marketing including proven experience with writing and editing skills; writing feature articles, brochures, annual reports and speeches; executing strategic communication plans and complex communication projects.

Additional Requirements:

-Demonstrable experience in developing comprehensive communication plans.
-Experience executing strategic communications plans and complex communication projects.
-Experience interfacing with executive level staff to identify, leverage and synthesize information into meaningful communication messages for a variety of target audiences.
-Experience in taking complex concepts and translating them into language that will engage audiences of diverse backgrounds and interests.
-Experience that demonstrates excellence in producing communication materials in multiple mediums, including print, web and other digital media.
-Experience writing/producing a variety of deliverables, such as press releases, features, executive correspondence, annual reports, social media, web copy, advertisement, direct mail and brochures.
-Demonstrable ability to exercise sound editorial judgment when interacting with and writing for senior leadership.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively, make decisions and multi-task while meeting competing and often challenging deadlines.
-Demonstrable understanding of a company or institution’s brand and voice.
Advanced editing skills.
-Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong listening and interpretive abilities.
-Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel programs.
-Ability to work evening and weekend hours as necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

-Master’s degree in relevant field.
-Background in media and/or public information industries.
-Experience with or working in higher education.
