Position Summary:

The UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing is dedicated to the education of nursing professionals who will improve patient care and promote population health locally and globally. The school strives to produce leaders in research, education, and clinical practice who will champion collaborative, compassionate, and interdisciplinary evidence-based practice. This NIH funded research project team including the community health worker (as known as community education specialist) will improve health disparities in dementia care working with research participants (i.e. family caregivers of person with dementia) as well as undergraduate and graduate students to contribute to the missions of the school.

Uses professional community educational program concepts to deliver standardized educational and volunteer educational programs. Applies established procedures and programs to address county program educational needs that are limited in scope. Follows standard practices in analyzing program content and delivery needs and determining effectiveness of current programs. Receives detailed instructions on all assignments. Additionally, the incumbent will closely work with the primary Principal Investigator (PI) and program manager (PM) with all overall research activities including (1) performing home visit intervention to primary family caregivers for community dwelling persons with dementia by providing caregiving education and stress reduction techniques, (2) research data collection, (3) assisting research participant recruitment with PI and PM, and (4) provide other general administrative support.

Hourly Rate: $16.52 - $20.00

Required:

1-3 years of relevant work experience with a college/university education (e.g., AD, BA/BS or higher degree) in related field (e.g., Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, Psychology) or equivalent experience in community-based education projects (e.g., older adults, caregivers, dementia, mental health). Must be bilingual Vietnamese/English (very fluent speaking, reading and writing in Vietnamese language especially)

Must have a college education completion or higher (e.g., bachelor’s degree) in related field (e.g., nursing, social work, public health, psychology, sociology, humanity, biology). Must be a bilingual Vietnamese and English (very fluent speaking, reading and writing in Vietnamese language)

Knowledge or experience in program content and objectives. Knowledge of how to deliver educational programs in a variety of settings. Organizational skills to develop a project plan, monitor plans against established deadlines, and review and analyze results. Basic effective reading, verbal, written communications and presentation skills to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to maintain positive interactions with others and work cooperatively. Experience using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. Proficiency in smartphone use and Adobe PDF, and GoogleDocs. 1-2 years of relevant work experience with BA/BS degree in related field or equivalent experience (i.e., community based education or counseling for older adults or informal caregivers). Demonstrated high-level communications skills to convey information in a clear and concise way. Must be bilingual Vietnamese/English and highly fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in Vietnamese language especially. Demonstrated skill in interacting with persons in various social, cultural, economic and educational background. Demonstrated skill in excellent time management. Strong attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to properly evaluate information, and prepare concise, well organized reports, summaries, and correspondence. Ability to think critically, compile data from various sources, and prepare reports. Skill in working independently, taking initiative and following through on all assignments. Ability to work as a supportive, cooperative member of a team. Ability to multitask and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment with frequent disruptions. Ability to establish and maintain files and records. Ability to drive to travel to community sites including interstate routes.

Special Conditions Required:

Travel to sites for research participant’s home for education as well as community sites for recruitment such as having meetings with organizations and local medical offices
