Job Function:

This position is responsible for a broad range of public services including, but not limited to, supervision of the circulation desk, handling course reserves, maintaining stacks, and working in the fulfillment portion of the library management system. It involves maintaining library handouts, gathering and analyzing library usage statistics, preparing overdue notices, and working with resource sharing. It requires exercising significant independent judgment, operating within a busy environment with frequent interruptions while monitoring multiple library functions, and substantial knowledge of library systems and procedures. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

Participate in group and individual training in the use of the library management system and discovery service as well as the online databasesPerform all fulfillment services, including loans and returns of all materials, produce and send overdue notices, assess fines, establish replacement costs and notify patrons, notify Business Services of outstanding library obligations, register patrons, and maintain confidentiality of user recordsInterview, hire, train, schedule and supervise work study studentsCreate and maintain online training for work study studentsSupervise circulation staff and work study students in their performance of: including, but not limited to, fulfillment activities, stack maintenance, and public serviceMaintain accuracy of collection by leading the inventory process on a regular basisAnswer questions about library services and procedures; provide assistance in the use of library resources; and, when necessary, refer visitors to appropriate personnel for additional serviceMaintain the course reserves/textbook collection by working with faculty to ensure the library has the correct textbooks each semester and keep the records accurate in the library management systemOversee all Interlibrary Loan (ILL) transactions, including locating sources for requested materials, processing requested materials, applying appropriate protocols and library policies, and maintain statistics for all ILL activityOversee and maintain statistics for the OK-Share Card program Regularly update policies and procedures for fulfillment and ILL servicesMaintain library-related documentsGather and compile library usage statistics for door counts, number and types of questions answered, and number of library lessonsGather usage statistics for online resources and the library websiteRegularly edit the library website to ensure accurate informationWork with librarians to create and maintain Research GuidesSchedule the use of the equipment in the collaboration roomsProvide staff training in the use of the fulfillment portion of the library management system as well as other topics as neededPerform troubleshooting in the library management system and work to keep it running properlyMaintain Primo VE, the discovery side of the library management systemTroubleshoot computer, copier, and printer issuesComplete all mandatory training and participate in a minimum of two professional development activities each year as well as additional online or live classesPerform other duties as assigned

Work Experience:

    Three years of relevant work experience with supervisory responsibilities
    One year of library experienceExperience working with Microsoft Office suite, including apps for collaborative work on various documents; Adobe productsOffice work requiring attention to detail and organizational and quantitative skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to office computers, performing Internet searches, Microsoft Office and Adobe products
    Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
    Excellent customer service skills and strong organizational skills
    Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to a multicultural environment
    Ability to communicate effectively with all students, faculty, staff, and community partners; giving full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
    Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar in order to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions, and respond to inquiries appropriately

Preferred Qualifications:

Two or more years library work experience

Knowledge in the use of library management systems for work in fulfillment, user management, discovery services, and configurations

Experience in the creation of online and in-person training

Working on Masters of Library and Information Studies or equivalent

Working Conditions:

    Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environmentWork will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact in person, by telephone and via emailPosition requires repetitive desk to counter mobilityTypical library environment – various working areas may be dusty
Physical Requirements:

Ability to transport books and copier paperMust be able to lift up to 40 lbs.(If an object weighs more than 45 lbs., OSU-Oklahoma City requires thisto be a two-person lift). Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage
