Director of Communications, Prisons and Justice Initiative - Georgetown College

Located in a historic neighborhood in the nation's capital, Georgetown offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, exciting ways to take advantage of Washington, D.C., and a commitment to social justice. Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world.

Georgetown University's Prisons and Justice Initiative was founded in 2016 in order to respond to the dual crisis of incarceration and recidivism. It brings together leading scholars, practitioners, and students to tackle the problem of mass incarceration—one of the most crucial moral and political issues of our time. Through public events, research seminars, and programs at local prisons/jails and for returning citizens in the Washington DC area, PJI works to better understand the causes and consequences of the mass incarceration crisis and to contribute to bipartisan solutions for effective reform.

The Director of Communications (CD) will assume overall responsibility for all PJI communications, ranging from content development to consistent messaging to strategic vision. The CD will work closely with the PJI leadership team to develop both content and larger communications strategies. The CD will collaborate with counterparts in the College and other schools and the University Office of Communications as appropriate, and will work to promote PJI widely and effectively, both within the Georgetown community and more broadly.

Reporting to the Director of Education, the Director of Communications will have management responsibility for PJI social media interns; the CD will also have management responsibility for additional communications specialists as the PJI communications team expands.
