Minimum Qualifications:

•Be a current employee of the University of Georgia
•Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
•Have 5-10 years of progressive responsibility in financial and administrative functions, with a focus on academic fiscal experience in instruction, research, and/or public service and outreach operations

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Vice President directs UGA’s Office of Academic Fiscal Affairs, which provides oversight for all financial and human resource affairs for units that report directly to the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost, including the Vice President for Instruction. This position provides oversight and assists in academic financial planning and execution of hiring, retention, and other initiatives, and assists schools and colleges in academic fiscal matters. This individual will work closely with the Vice Provosts and Associate Provosts and is a key member of the Provost’s Office leadership team. This position is a full-time (100% effort) administrative position.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

•Provide leadership as part of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost team
•Assist Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost in academic financial planning and execution of hiring, retention, and other initiatives
•Work collaboratively with the Vice President for Finance and Administration and the Senior Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration & Budget Director on university-wide financial planning, providing academic needs perspectives
•Provide advice for fiscal and human resource management to Deans and Vice Presidents and administrative staff in these units when requested
•Participate in annual academic unit (college/schools/academic VP offices) budget meetings and budget formulation
•Maintain an administratively lean financial office that directly supports the Offices of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost and the Vice President for Instruction
•Provide oversight for all financial and human resource operations that report to the the Provost and Vice President for Instruction, in collaboration with Academic Fiscal Affairs staff
•Direct supervision of three staff members: Director of Instruction Fiscal Affairs, Fiscal Affairs Professional, and Administrative Specialist
•Dotted-line supervision of Director of Finance & Operations for the Office of Global Engagement
•Engage with other financial administrative leaders across campus on process improvement
•As needed, assist the Associate Vice President for Human Resources on successful implementation of new regulations, policies and initiatives
•Review requests for faculty retention and salary changes for Provost’s consideration and work with the Associate Vice President for Human Resources on these changes as needed to comply with USG policies and procedures
•Execute approvals and allocations with authority as designated and delegated by the Provost
•Collect information, review, and make recommendations for allocations from the University of Georgia Foundation on behalf of the Provost

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:

•10+ years of progressive responsibility in financial and administrative functions, with a focus on academic fiscal experience in instruction, research, and/or public service and outreach operations

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

•A firm understanding of the role and importance of an Office of Academic Fiscal Affairs at a comprehensive research university
•An understanding of and appreciation for the mission of UGA and the role and importance of providing and communicating support for that mission

•Strong verbal and written communication skills
