Position Summary:

The Department of Theater & Performance invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2021. We are seeking an outstanding teacher/scholar dedicated to excellence in performance studies with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to performance, writing, dramaturgy, and research. Applicants should possess a strong background in contemporary training and performance techniques for the 21st century performer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach courses in performance related subjects. The position also requires contributing effectively to curriculum development efforts, advising and mentoring students, providing service to the department and college, and establishing a competitive and highly productive undergraduate program. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with women and underrepresented minority students through teaching, mentoring, and research are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Theater & Performance is part of the Division of the Arts and [email protected], which also includes Art & Visual Culture, Dance Performance & Choreography, Music, the Digital Moving Image Salon, the Museum of Fine Art, and the Spelman College Innovation Lab. The College is planning for a new facility, the Center for Innovation and the Arts, an interdisciplinary environment that supports and advances experimentation, collaboration, active play, research, and the imaginative use of digital technologies.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have earned a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) or an equivalent record of professional accomplishments; and will have provided evidence of potential to develop a nationally recognizable profile in the theatrical field.
