Job Details:Academic Adviser
Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following three (3) positions: Academic Adviser (Student Services Program Coordinator II) in the Academic Resource Center (ARC). These positions will work closely with Department Chairs in advising students within their major.
Duties include, but are not limited to: keeping regular contact with students during each registration cycle as students follow or adjust their plan of study; providing students with feedback on their academic progress; assisting the Chair or Chairs in providing all students within the University accurate and timely information on academic majors, University policies and regulations, and additional academic support services; assisting and leading summer orientation sessions; meeting with students within the major during the penultimate semester to complete forms necessary for graduation; assisting departments with recruitment activities; working closely with leadership in the ARC and other college advisors in developing, implementing, and evaluating retention strategies; monitoring student progress through the University’s early-alert system. Academic Advisors will also teach one course during fall semester and offer supplementary workshops and study sessions as necessary throughout the year.
Requirements: A Master’s degree and related experience are required. At least two years of experience in related field preferred. Teaching experience desired. Applicants should have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and faculty; tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations; the ability to maintain confidentiality; the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; strong work ethic; and commitment to student success.
A successful candidate will also possess knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development and educational administration; knowledge of the policies and procedures affecting the assigned program areas; knowledge of the techniques of individual or group counseling; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and the general public; the ability to identify, develop and implement programs and activities that will benefit the campus community; the ability to provide supportive counseling for a wide range of student problems.

Required Qualifications:Master’s Degree and related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Two years’ experience in higher education. Former experience with college-level instruction is preferred.
