The Director of Academic Assessment provides expertise and support for Emerson's assessment efforts by working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to define, implement and document best practices for the assessment of comprehensive student learning across the College.

This position oversees the practice and coordination of assessment of student learning outcomes in programs and assists in the evaluation of academic programs in academic departments and schools, integrates assessment activities and results with curricular committees, disseminates obtained information among College constituents and stakeholders, and sponsors instructional support activities.

We are actively seeking someone who can build and implement a modernized plan for assessing Emerson College's curriculum through gap analysis of assessment activities and closing the loop to ensure successful results. Within the first two years, this position will manage the NECHE Accreditation process and build a multi-year strategic plan with key committees and partners.

Your Direct Reports: Academic Assessment Office Assistant (part-time) and a student worker

Your Key Partners: The Student Learning Committee, the Assessment Committee within each department, the Center for Innovation, Teaching and Learning, our faculty, and many staff members throughout Academic Affairs, such as the Office of Internationalization and Global Initiatives to support Emerson College's globalization programs.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Consult with faculty and academic administrators and use professional knowledge and experience to develop and implement assessment plans at the course, program, and college-wide levels.
  • Lead the Student Learning Committee of faculty from each department in conducting departmental academic assessment gap analysis, identify learning opportunities, and develop a progression plan at the course level.
  • Collaborate with the Library, Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, Director of Faculty Development and Diversity, and other academic support units in the development and delivery of assessment seminars, workshops and conference presentations. Contribute to the development of web-based resources for learning outcomes assessment.
  • Create and maintain a database of assessment data and information. Report out to stakeholders on an ongoing basis; participate in NECHE reporting for the college.
  • Work with the Office of Institutional Research to analyze and share results of assessment activities, in order to foster educational improvements.
  • Develop and oversee programs for the assessment education of faculty and staff by arranging conferences, workshops, etc., and maintaining a library of assessment methodology, ideas, and materials. Build and maintain a pool of current resources and information about national assessment issues by attending appropriate conferences and procuring relevant publications.
  • Through regular research and peer communication in the field, keep senior leadership informed about current best practices for assessment, curriculum development, and learning frameworks in higher education.
  • Design, host, and conduct faculty development workshops and training on assessment, curriculum, and syllabus development.
  • Supervise the part-time Academic Assessment Office Assistant by conducting mid-year and annual reviews and by assigning tasks related to ongoing responsibilities such as conducting research, assisting with the preparation of assessment reports and scheduling meetings, workshops and events.
  • Communicates effectively across the college and externally.
  • May have the opportunity to teach during summer or winter terms.

Your Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree, or extensive related experience within Academic Affairs
  • Approximately 5 years of experience as a full-time faculty member or administrator in academic affairs creating assessment programs to advance the goals of the College and/or departments
  • Commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, and sustainability
  • Advanced knowledge in theory and practice for effective assessment of curricular and co-curricular student learning outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating engaging and interactive workshops and webinars
  • Past success in planning and facilitating academic assessment processes for program, department, and/or college-wide curricula
  • Enjoyment in educating others through clear presentations, and maintaining websites and/or databases to communicate resources and departmental progress with faculty and administration

We'd Preferred You Have:
  • Ph.D. or terminal degree
  • Experience managing staff
  • Experience with Canvas or other learning management systems

Grade of Position: A18E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

Hiring Range: $87,950.00 - $92,450.00
