Requisition Number: 32858

Position Description:
The leaders of the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge, a campuswide initiative, which has the ambitious goal of cutting the global burden of depression in half by 2050, seek to hire individuals with an advanced degree (MA, PsyD, PhD or EdD) in a mental health field such as psychology, social work, community health, or related field to serve as STAND supervisors. Under the pillar focused on innovative treatment, led by Professor Michelle Craske, the Depression Grand Challenge has created a new system of care that leverages online cognitive behavioral therapy delivered in conjunction with certified coaches for individuals suffering from mild or moderate depression of anxiety. The program is called the Screening and Treatment for Anxiety and Depression (also knowns as STAND or STAND System of Care). In this system of care, traditional clinical treatment between an individual and clinician is reserved for only those individuals with severe depression or suicidality. Participants' mood is tracked and treatment is adjusted to be responsive to the participants' needs. This system of care was piloted on the UCLA campus from 2017 through 2020, and in the upcoming year will be demonstrated in other settings both in its system of care format as well as in a new format designed in response to COVID-19 with services offered to particular communities for individuals for prevention, mild and moderate anxiety and depression (called STAND For All).

UCLA seeks to hire a small team of STAND Assessor & Supervisors with four primary responsibilities: (1) Supervise (including training) Coaches and Trainees who are engaged with the STAND program; (2) Program Evaluation; (3) Administrative, Team Building & Other Duties; and (4) Clinical Care.

As part of the Coach/Trainee Supervision duties, the STAND Assessor & Supervisors will provide clinical and administrative supervision to certified lay coaches who provide support to various individuals using cognitive behavioral strategies outlined in the UCLA STAND modules. The incumbents will orient, develop, mentor and evaluate the coaches and trainees, holding weekly meetings covering curricula developed in consultation with the STAND Trainer and STAND Program Manager.

As part of the Program Evaluation duties, the STAND Assessor & Supervisors will maintain open communication with the STAND For All Program Manager and the STAND Trainer regarding observations of topics which coaches require training or patterns of gaps in competency.

As part of the Administrative, Team Building & Other Duties, the STAND Assessor & Supervisors will troubleshoot participant complaint issues, documenting all raised concerns, even those that are expeditiously resolved, develop caseload assignment strategies (revising as needed in response to changes in coach availability and participant numbers) and other duties in furtherance of Depression Grand Challenge goals as may be assigned from time to time.

As part of the Clinical Care duties, the incumbents will fill gaps, providing backup or routine coverage for clinical care including conducting participant intake, clinical assessments and delivering protocolized care for any Depression Grand Challenge related project.

This position is expected to be performed remotely until at least mid-March 2021.
