Stanford Real Estate (SRE) manages the University's land endowment, comprised of 14 million square feet of office, Research & Development and hotel assets, and with assets under management currently valued at $5.9 billion. SRE's mission is investing and optimizing the risk-adjusted value of Stanford's income-producing lands and it deploys real estate expertise to serve University priorities. Nearly all revenues earned from SRE's diverse portfolio support the University's general fund and SRE's transactions are governed by the Stanford Management Company Board of Directors. SRE is a department within Land, Buildings and Real Estate (LBRE), an entity that serves Stanford University's academic mission through the development and operations of the University's 8,180 acres of land holdings. 4,200 of those acres are dedicated for campus and related uses, while SRE oversees the remaining 3,900 acres for commercial, hospitality, residential and agricultural uses. About the Associate

This Associate role is the ideal position to experience real estate investment, development and asset management within Silicon Valley. The Associate is directly responsible for a variety of analytical and project management duties and plays an active role in all value-creation strategies and transactions on Stanford's prestigious lands. Using creativity and critical thinking, and while working collaboratively within a dynamic environment, the Associate will gain exposure to several real estate asset classes and build strong relationships with high profile real estate investors and developers, and best-in-class tenants. Given the highly strategic nature of the portfolio, the Associate is a critical team member who works directly with two Associate Vice Presidents, two Managing Directors, and five Directors within Stanford Real Estate.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate's primary responsibilities include leading the annual valuation of all real estate assets within Stanford's locally-owned investment portfolio, coordinating with third-party appraisers, preparing investment strategy materials, reporting documentation, and performance reports for board members and senior university officials, evaluating real estate opportunities and potential developments, and structuring complex transactions (including ground lease extensions, acquisitions and dispositions). It is a two-year fixed term position, with an option to stay for a third year, reporting directly to the Director, Asset Management but that includes working with all the groups in Stanford Real Estate (Asset Management, Development, Finance & Lease Administration)

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and self-directed analytical thinker, is practiced at developing a variety of strategic financial analyses (e.g. present value/IRR calculations), is able to learn new concepts, displays attention to accuracy and detail, and resolves challenges with minimal supervision. This position offers a blend of autonomy and the chance to collaborate with a variety of prospective investors and business partners having high levels of investment sophistication.

A bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience, preferably in the investment banking, real estate finance, or management consulting industries. Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and, familiarity with other investment management software tools, including Argus, is required. Candidate must show a demonstrated career interest in real estate investment or development.

LOCATION: The role is based in Redwood City but will be fully distributed until a return to office work is allowed locally.
