Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Fairfield University invites applications for a one-semester full time visiting assistant professor position beginning January 1, 2021. The position is for instruction in General Chemistry II, as well as contributions to Physical Chemistry, Chemical Instrumentation, Chemical Analysis Laboratory and/or Biochemistry. The possibility of extending this Visiting Assistant Position to the ‘21-‘22 academic year is dependent upon funding approval.


Applicants are expected to currently hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, as well as undergraduate lab teaching experience. Candidates should have experience teaching General Chemistry, good communication skills, and experience using classroom/laboratory technology. Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully taught Physical Chemistry, Chemical Instrumentation, Chemical Analysis Laboratory and/or Biochemistry to undergraduate college students.

The department consists of nine full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, several departmental events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences.
