The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Voice (Tenure Track) to join the UTRGV School of Music in Fall 2021. Mezzo-soprano or soprano preferred. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate Applied Voice and related subjects as assigned by the Director of the School of Music based on the needs of the department. Applicants should demonstrate a record of successful university teaching, vocal performance and scholarly activity, and potential for continued growth in these areas. The successful candidate will be expected to collegially participate in recruitment, community engagement, and service activities appropriate to their assigned teaching load and the expectations of the School of Music.

UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV’s core priorities (, which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in Music (Vocal Performance or a related field) from an accredited institution. A record of successful teaching at the collegiate level.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Experience teaching Applied Voice and/or other voice-related courses. A record of active vocal performance and scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications

Mezzo-soprano or soprano preferred. Demonstrated record of recruiting students and building a successful studio.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
