Job Id: 581 # of Openings: 1 Director of Learning and Accessibility ServicesJob OverviewReporting to the Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs, this position is responsible for providing leadership, budget oversight and supervision for all functions of the Learning and Accessibility Services Office. The Director of Learning and Accessibility Services oversees campus accessibility, coordination of ADA accommodations for students in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the provision of general academic support resources and services in collaboration with key campus departments and individuals.Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides direct services to students and develops resources and programming for students, faculty and staff that incorporate best practices and relevant legal guidelines for student academic success and campus accessibility.
  2. Establishes partnerships and collaborates across departments and divisions to enhance campus accessibility and inclusion, consult about reasonable accommodations, promote student academic success and support students who are experiencing academic challenges.
  3. Responsible for the hiring, training, evaluating and direct supervision of the Accessibility Specialist, test proctors and coordinator, and any future hires.
  4. Responds to relevant student care issues and referrals in collaboration with the Student Care Services Office.
  5. Meets with students on academic probation to assess needs, provide resources and referrals, and improve retention.
  6. Collaborates with offices and individuals in the Learning and Teaching Collaborative (LTC) and participates in initiatives provided collaboratively through the LTC and the Student Academic Success unit of the LTC.
  7. Serves as a LTC Student Academic Success representative on the Student Development Deans and Directors and Student Wellness Teams to foster cross-divisional partnerships between academic student services in the LTC and student care in Student Development.
  8. Serves as chair of the Accessibility Services Committee and makes recommendations to the Campus Planning team for changes to buildings or grounds that improve physical accessibility to facilities.
  9. Serves as campus ADA compliance officer for the student population; stays abreast of governmental changes to relevant disability law.
  10. Provides oversight of the LAS budget.
  11. Maintains appropriate records. Completes assessments on relevant learning outcomes and student satisfaction and makes adjustments based on relevant data.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree required (in Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, Disability Studies or related field).
  2. A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.
  3. A vision of how to contribute to the mission of Wheaton College through the goals and purposes of the Learning and Accessibility Services Office.
  4. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and group communication skills.
  5. The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to build partnerships with diverse constituencies.
  7. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly gain a strong working knowledge of relevant federal and state laws related to accessibility e.g. Americans with Disabilities and Amendments Act (ADA, ADAAA) and Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  8. Ability to use a variety of computer applications, especially Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn accommodation software system (Accommodate by Symplicity)
  9. Demonstrates or is willing to increase knowledge of current research, trends, and best practices in college student academic success and campus accessibility.
Physical RequirementsThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.
