The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry has just welcomed their new Department Chair, C. Neill Epperson, MD and is in the process of growing the Department of Psychiatry with new programs and expanding existing programs.

Position Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Children’s Hospital Colorado invites applications for a psychologist position in the Neuropsychiatric Special Care Program (NSC) and Outpatient clinics at the Pediatric Mental Health Institute. The Neuropsychiatric Special Care (NSC) Program at Children's Hospital Colorado treats children and adolescents with an intellectual or developmental disability, who are experiencing a behavioral or mental health crisis. We offer evidence-based behavioral and psychiatric treatment, which means that the treatment your child receives is supported by current research. We provide inpatient and partial hospitalization services that are staffed with experts in their respective areas for children and adolescents with ages four through seventeen years who are in crisis and have co-morbid conditions (medical and/or psychiatric).  The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychology is a vital and growing research and teaching section in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Neuropsychiatric Special Care (NSC) Program

The appropriate candidate must demonstrate expertise in the use of evidence-based treatment approaches for children and adolescents in crisis.  On Inpatient/PHP, the position will involve providing standardized assessment, developing individual treatment plans, assisting with program development and protocols for brief interventions, supervising trainees, and providing ongoing consultative support to members of the treatment team, including milieu staff. Innovative program development is a critical component of inpatient and PHP and opportunities to engage in quality improvement and research initiatives will be integral to this position. The psychologist will oversee management and facilitation of the implementation of behavioral intervention plans in the milieu setting and take primary responsibility for the individual therapy for some patients. 

Outpatient Clinic

The psychologist will provide evidence-based assessment and treatment to children and adolescents presenting with a wide range of emotional and behavioral difficulties. Unique to this role is the opportunity to engage in program development aimed at improving continuity of care for patients who are seen across levels of care.

Please note, this is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

Salary and Benefits:

Instructor/Senior Instructor/Assistant Professor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $90,000 to $105,000.

Associate Professor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $113,000 to $130,000.

Professor: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $162,000 to $200,000.

This represents the 25-50 percentile of the salary range which is reflective of a candidate with 1-7 years of experience. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants must possess a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado.  Must have significant prior experience in a psychiatric setting serving children and adolescents, have completed an APA-approved Ph.D. or Psy.D training program, including an APA-approved internship.  Must have or be prepared to sit to become a board-certified behavior analyst within 1 year of hire.Must obtain Medical staff privileges at Children’s Hospital Colorado. 
Instructor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD

Senior Instructor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD

Assistant Professor: 1-3 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD

Associate Professor: 4-7 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD

Professor: 7+ years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: PhD and/or PsyD

Preferred Qualifications:

    A minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience after completion of post-doctoral fellowship in child and adolescent psychology clinical work.  Demonstrated skills in the use of developmentally and diagnostically appropriate assessment tools. Experience working in an APA accredited training program.  Preference will be given to those who are eager to lead or collaborate on research or quality improvement initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of assessment, preferably with acute psychiatric disorders, program development, experience supervising and mentoring trainees and other mental health providers, as well as teaching and developing course materials.  Experience in using evidence-based interventions such as ABA, CBT, DBT, behavior/parent management, and transdiagnostic protocols is required.
