Position Summary:

The Director Career Development (CD) and Employer Relations (ER) is responsible for the strategic oversight and administration of the career development and employer relations functions within the Undergraduate Business Program (UBP). In this role, the Director will ensure the delivery of career development coaching and programming for all undergraduate business students, as well as the leveraging of resources to create substantive opportunities for students to engage with hiring organizations for both internships and full-time employment. The Director will manage budget and resource allocation as well as define team goals, objectives, strategies, roles and responsibilities for a team of professional staff, with a focus on creating a diverse, equitable, inclusive environment in which staff members can contribute, grow, and thrive. The Director will collaborate with other UBP Leadership, Kenan-Flagler faculty, and other Career professionals at UNC to identify synergies and build a portfolio of programs and initiatives that reflect the ever-changing interests and needs of undergraduate business students and the employers who recruit them in a competitive global job market. The Director reports to the Assistant Dean of the Undergraduate Business Program.

Educational Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (i.e. education, business, counseling) is preferred. All degrees should be from an accredited university.

Qualifications and Experience:

Position requires the following: Five (5) or more years of experience in career services, higher education, business development, recruiting, human resources; or a related business relevant field with a minimum of five (5) years in a client-facing role. Strong leadership skills and management experience with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ability to effectively and enthusiastically represent UNC Kenan-Flagler undergraduate business students and the UBP to targeted organizations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal presentation) with an ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders at all levels including students, faculty, staff, executives, alumni, and recruiting professionals. Critical requirements include: professional demeanor, strong organizational and project management skills, strategic thinking skills, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and frequently ambiguous environment, flexibility, ability to manage multiple priorities, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Strong proficiency in technology (office productivity and information management software): Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creative thinking and an innovative approach to contemporary career management, which includes understanding the connection between student development theory, the ever-evolving recruiting landscape, and technology. The candidate will have demonstrated success in career coaching and program management. The ability to manage the demands of unpredictable employer and student concerns is a must. The individual must be willing and able to attend and or manage events in the evening hours and some weekends, particularly during peak recruiting periods. Travel is required to visit key employers, accompany students on recruiting trips, and represent UNC Kenan-Flagler at national and international conferences.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Carolina is about 30 miles from the state capital, Raleigh, and 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Sports and athletic programs: UNC is an NCAA Division I school with 28 varsity teams. Technological facilities: Students find multiple uses for Carolina's state-of-the-art technological resources. Students may open e-mail accounts, and many use campus computer resources to construct personal Web pages. Students in residence halls have hardwired network connections to the Internet and cable television in their rooms. At the ATN Training center, students may take classes on software packages and utilities. Computer labs are available for student use all over campus.

Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
