COVID Testing Coordinator

Lake Forest College invites applications for a temporary position of COVID Testing Coordinator. A small, private liberal arts institution located just 30 miles north of Chicago, Lake Forest College enrolls approximately 1,500 students from more than 40 states and from more than 70 countries. Position Summary

The COVID testing Coordinator provides and coordinates the COVID-19 testing services at the Lake Forest College’s testing clinic for students, faculty, and staff. Staff in this position will be provided full personal protective equipment in order to safely complete the duties. This position requires a detail-oriented, organized person to manage the daily lists of testing participants, administer the data-entry of testing results into the database, and reporting out positive cases or abnormalities as instructed. When the other testing clinic staff are on break, the Coordinator will be asked to step into their duties of educating patients about self-administered specimen collection and processing the test kits. The tests will be analyzed on site (in the case of rapid antigen tests) or at a local lab (in the case of PCR tests). The position is full-time, typically Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm with rare exceptions, and begin on December 28. This position is a term position through the end of May 2021.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead the on-site protocols in the Testing Clinic. Monitor department inventory of supplies, organize and maintain the physical area, and assemble COVID kits with labels.
• Organize the daily spreadsheets of people scheduled for testing and reconcile at the end of each testing day.
• Provide quality control for each work flow step. Monitor chain of custody of samples both established and reconciled.
• Document test results in a computer database (Excel). Provide notification to those tested about the results. Properly identify positive cases and notify supervisor per testing clinic protocols.
• Maintain a safe and healthy environment and comply with all facility and legal regulations. Wear proper (provided) Personal Protective Equipment, and regularly sanitize all reception and work spaces.
• As needed, substitute for the testing clinic staff in their relevant duties, including but not limited to: Escort Lake Forest College community members through COVID-19 testing protocols. Verify correct identification, uphold social distancing guidelines, and teach technique for self-collection of a sample of respiratory mucosa for testing.
• Monitor for appropriate sampling and collect specimen from the person. Maintain quality results by following strict collection protocols, and process the test kits as instructed. Possess detailed knowledge in collecting, labeling, and handling laboratory specimens, with specificity to COVID-19.

Qualifications  

• High school or equivalent required
• Immunization records up to date
• Experience: One year in a medical laboratory or patient care
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Experience in health care such as: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT / CPT), Medical Lab Technician (MLT) or Clinical Lab Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA), Medical Assistants (MA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedics, Certified Athletic Trainers (CAT), or students in health care degree programs.
