Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Student-Athlete Services

This position is responsible for the oversight and management of the Compliance and Student-Athlete Services (SAS) units within the Department of Athletics. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), this position helps determine strategic initiatives for the Department. This position will also oversee selected sports as a Sport Supervisor.

Compensation:
The salary is competitive and is negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position with an attractive benefits package which includes but is not limited to: a vacation accrual rate of 16 hours per month; 12+ paid holidays; excellent choice of medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability coverage, life insurance; and retirement benefits.

Position Summary:
  • Provide oversight, management and leadership to Compliance and Student-Athlete Services units.
  • Member of the Athletics Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and helps determine strategic initiatives for the department.
  • Serve as Sport Supervisor for sports as assigned; Maintain responsibility for the supervision of all aspects of the sports program, including but not limited to academic performance, well-being, and overall development of student-athletes, budget development and management, compliance, event management issues, facility needs and issues, marketing of program, media needs and issues, personnel assessment, program assessment, scheduling of contests, and travel approval.
  • As Chief Compliance Officer, implement systems and policies that ensure the institution's commitment to NCAA and Conference Rules Compliance.
  • Oversees all aspects of compliance including but not limited to educational efforts, investigation and reporting of violations, processing of waivers and student-athlete reinstatements, monitoring initiatives, new legislation, academic progress rates and graduation success rates.
  • Serves as the liaison for the admissions process with the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and the Faculty Athletics Representative.
  • Oversees all aspects of the Student-Athlete Services, including implementing policies and procedures and strategic initiatives to support the academic mission of student-athletes.
  • Serves as liaison to campus to provide tutoring, supplemental instruction and other services.
  • Oversees initiatives to impact student-athlete development including life skills, career development and other programming as needed.
  • Assists the department in oversight of Title IX and gender equity efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough and professional knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations .
  • Ability to effectively:
    o. Interact with coaches of Division I sports programs, student-athletes and campus officials
    o. Develop appropriate structure, systems, policies, and procedures for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services
    o. Supervise a team of compliance and academic professionals.
    o. Maintain strict confidentiality.
    o. Multi-task and meet deadlines.
    o. Desire and ability to work within a fast-paced, diverse and team-oriented work environment.
    o. Support the department's commitment to equity and diversity as well as perform duties with integrity and professionalism.
    o. Have excellent communication skills both oral and written as well as competence in interpreting and communicating procedures, policies, ideas and instructions.
    o. History of regular attendance and positive reviews.

    Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education which is accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education.
  • Minimum seven years full-time NCAA Compliance or Student-Athlete Services experience (may include time as a graduate assistant or intern) at an NCAA Division I institution, NCAA National Office or Conference office.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or Juris Doctor.
  • NCAA Compliance experience at an NCAA Division I institution.
  • Experience in compliance at an FBS institution.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of Academic requirements including progress towards degree, APR, GSR and how to appropriately support student-athletes in their pursuit of a degree
