Unrestricted Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
One year or more in providing direct counseling services to individuals and groups.
Equipment and Skills: Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students of diverse backgrounds, faculty, staff, and administrators; skills and confidence in managing and operating virtual teaching platforms. Maintain excellent written and oral communication skills and effective public relations skills and demonstrated teaching and academic leadership skills.Preferred:
Education: Doctorate in Counseling Education and Supervision or All but Dissertation (ABD).
Experience: Experience teaching in higher education.
Equipment and Skills: Greater skill levels in the above areas.Primary Responsibilities:
Function: As an adjunct professor, you work with students at higher education to provide them with the knowledge and training they need to be successful in their chosen career. Your ability to work on a course-by-course basis gives you the flexibility to choose when you want to work and when you don’t. Adjunct professors can reach out to students in personal ways without the worries of research, tenure and development that full-time professors have. Setting: Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College. Platforms of teaching may include person-to-person and virtual means.
Supplemental Functions: Coordinating student counseling care services with the experiential professor.
Scope: Responsibilities may vary from routine administrative and outreach services to faculty collaboration and counselor-training innovation. The Director will manage and supervise campus and community-wide trainings and services in crisis intervention, mental health awareness, behavioral health screenings, consultation with faculty, staff, and students, and be responsible for all aspects of the Community Counseling Clinic and Counseling Fieldwork.
•Essential Duties: Teach specific classes areas of academic achievement, engaging ways that help students learn and encourage them to come to class regularly.
•Develop course outlines, curriculum and instructional materials to improve the processes and courses offered to students as they seek their chosen degree.
•Advise students about career choices, advancement, progress and goal attainment in your course with regard to their field of study.
•Assign grades and assess student progress, potential and achievement in concrete, understandable ways to ultimately help the student progress toward a degree.
•Lecture and teach the material presented in the course syllabus and outline in a professional and engaging manner.
•Participate in continuing education classes to guarantee that your knowledge and teaching methods are up-to-date and likely to help students succeed.
•Maintain appropriate records in an organized, efficient manner for every individual class taught, and have this information prepared for students at all times.
•Cultivate a desire to build relationships, find solutions to problems and be helpful and friendly at all times.
Non-Essential Duties: Assist with the coordination of campus and community mental health awareness events and experiences; advises counseling graduate students; serves on oral examination events; accomplishes designated responsibilities expected of university faculty members.
Received: Close to moderate supervision on new or unusual assignment; minimum supervision on routine tasks.
Given: Plan, prepare, develop and instruct course content and grade student assignments and assign a final letter grade.
Equipment and Skills:
Experience working with virtual platform teaching delivery programs that include Blackboard Collaborate and Zoom.
Usual: Indoor duties in counseling office or virtual platforms. The position is Security Sensitive.
Special: Presentations or consultation in other locations on campus, local or nearby communities, on an irregular schedule, including some evening and weekend work.
Travel: Travel to three Sul Ross State University Middle Rio Grande Campuses or communicate through virtual means to supervise, coordinate, and collaborate accordingly with students, staff, faculty, and community stakeholders.
Any qualifications to be considered in place of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.

Rio Grande College offers classes at Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and Uvalde in the southwest Texas border region.
