The Department of Elementary and Special Education in the College of Education invites applications and nominations for the position of Instructor of Elementary and Special Education (Dual Certification). The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Elementary and Special Education, the Instructor of Dual Certification position requires teaching undergraduate courses in elementary education and special education fields; supervising field-based experiences; working in partnerships with area schools; modeling effective teaching practices; using instructional technology; and performing service within the department, college, University, and community. The position is a 10-month, non-tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
• Earned master's degree in Elementary Education, Special Education, or a closely related field by August 1, 2021
• Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience with PK-5 students in general and/or special education environments
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the supervision of student teachers, practicum students, and/or mentorship role of novice teachers
• Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in special education coursework
• Experience teaching undergraduate courses
• Experience teaching PK-5 students with disabilities
• Experience working with diverse student populations
• Demonstrated effectiveness in using technology in instruction
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Experience with co-teaching

Screening of applications begins December 4, 2020 and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2021.
