Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Liberty University School of Engineering (LUSE) seeks a Department Chair, who would assist the Dean in facilitating all college activities and to provide leadership toward achievement of excellence in teaching, research, and service with respect to the Mechanical, Civil, and Industrial Departments. LUSE currently comprises Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial and Computer Engineering Departments with a forthcoming Civil Engineering Department and a forthcoming Computational Sciences and Engineering Department being a virtual department in which faculty from other departments can partake. The areas of research interest include Solid Mechanics (e.g., fatigue, fracture, metal processing, damage mechanics, and constitutive modeling), Thermal Sciences (e.g., energy systems, renewable energy, combustion, fluid dynamics), Materials (metallurgy, computational materials, materials characterization), Computational Mechanics (e.g., numerical methods, finite element analysis, etc.) and Design (e.g., materials design, product design, systems design, environment and sustainability, robust design and uncertainty quantification). Successful candidates will be expected to help develop internationally-recognized, externally-funded, sustainable research programs and to make significant contributions to the school’s teaching and service responsibilities.

Candidates need to clearly indicate in the cover letter their area of research interest as well (Solid Mechanics, Thermal Sciences, Materials, Computational, or Design). The online applicant site can be accessed by going to https://jobs.liberty.edu. The search committee will begin screening of applicants immediately and will continue to accept applications until all positions are filled.

The job entails garnering funds for research projects, developing programs for sustainable research, and conducting personal research in his/her own field of expertise. The Department Head may teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses and serve the LUSE. Applicants must demonstrate a personal faith in Jesus Christ and help train the next generation of Champions for Christ as per the Liberty University mission.
