The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Music is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Music (Tenure Track) to join the UTRGV School of Music in Fall 2021. Primary responsibilities will include directing assigned choral ensembles, teaching choral conducting, secondary choral methods, and/or other choral and music education courses assigned by the School of Music Director. Applicants should demonstrate a record of successful university teaching, ensemble leadership, scholarly activity, and potential for growth in these areas. The successful candidate will be expected to collegially participate in recruitment, community engagement, and service activities appropriate to their assigned teaching load and the expectations of the School of Music.

Minimum QualificationsDoctorate in Music (Choral Conducting) from an accredited institution. A record of successful teaching at the collegiate level.
Discipline Specific Required QualificationsExperience directing college-level choral ensembles.
Preferred QualificationsExperience teaching in secondary schools. Demonstrated record of recruiting students and expanding a choral music education program. Record of successful secondary choral music education.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
