Department InformationThe SCHOOL OF CHEMISTRY & BIOCHEMISTRY of the GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY invites applications for its Postdoctoral Fellow position. The School has vibrant undergraduate and graduate programs, with over 300 undergraduate majors and 200 graduate students, and an extensive research portfolio. Its faculty, staff, and students participate in a range of dynamic and collaborative research programs and enjoy modern facilities located on a pleasant urban campus close to the center of Atlanta.
Job SummaryThe postdoctoral fellow will work in the area of characterization of chitin/nanocellulose multilayers, which we are developing in the project as oxygen barrier layers to replace petroleum based plastic packaging. We use these barrier layers to encapsulate and protect organic electronic devices, where our present work targets color changing electrochromic cells. These cells can be driven by low-voltage solar cells, so developing and characterizing systems which couple these together is important. The position requires strengths in optical properties of materials, spectroscopy, and microscopy. Further characterization methods including XPS, AFM, thin-film profilometry, and hyperspectral imaging will be employed.
ResponsibilitiesThis position will include the primary responsibility of developing characterization of chitin/nanocellulose multilayers. The Postdoctoral Fellow in this position will provide essential mentorship to graduate students and undergraduate students, central to the Institute’s training mission. This position will involve day-to-day operations of this laboratory in our Department of Energy funded grant. Results will be obtained in optical properties of materials, spectroscopy, and microscopy allowing the team to be able to evaluate our ability to make new oxygen barrier layers (protective coatings) for future food packaging and smart label applications.
Required QualificationsPhD or Equivalent terminal degree
Preferred QualificationsSpecialized training in materials chemistry, spectroscopy and microscopy
Required Documents to AttachCV
