The College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) at Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) invites applications for a Project Director appointment beginning in Fall 2020. A regional comprehensive university, A&M-SA has approximately 6,700 students enrolled in over 50 undergraduate programs and 13 graduate programs. Transition University for Career Advancement and Successful Adulthood (TU CASA) provides a post-secondary education program for students with intellectual disabilities. TU CASA aims to provide the following: (a) a fully inclusive with access to typical and specialized postsecondary education services and support systems; (b) utilizes a person-centered approach in providing individualized post-secondary experiences; (c) offers post-secondary education credentials for addressing academic, vocational, and independent living domains; (d) is responsive to cultural and socio-economic factors in the community; (e) is comprehensively evaluated; and (f) has a prospect for replication in the region and across the state.

The Project Director is the operations leader for the TU CASA program. The Project Director is responsible for the planning, organization, management, implementation, continuous review, and analysis of the project. This includes ensuring that the project complies with the Federal Government’s requirements, achieves objectives and outcomes, manages budget, and is implemented successfully. This is a grant funded position that is based on the continuation of the grant (for up to 5 years).

Required Qualifications:

  • Preferred, Master’s degree and three (3) years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree and ten (10) years of related experience.

  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of grant management including monitoring all areas of compliance as related to institutional and the Office of Post-Secondary policies as well as budget, hiring, supervision and evaluation of personnel and reporting.

  • Experience planning, coordinating and organizing complex, multi-activity projects (preferable in special education).

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

  • Ability to develop cooperative relationships among faculty, staff, administration, and University leadership. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) reading, writing and speaking skills.

  • Experience working with first generation college students from cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

  • Possess proven track record of excellence in grant budget management

  • Experience working with diverse families

  • Experience in the field of special education with a focus on intellectual disabilities, transition, and/or disability support services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily operations of the project, including timely implementation of all required activities, as detailed in the grant proposal and/or grant agreement or contract.

  • Coordinates with the PIs to hire, supervise, and evaluate full-time and part-time project staff, including consultants.

  • Administers, prepares, and manages the grant budget to ensure funds are allocated and spent according to project, funder, and college requirements.

  • Ensures compliance with University and funding agency policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Leads formative and summative evaluation of project by working with external evaluator.

  • Manages and oversees the grant project in accordance with University policy and in compliance with funder requirements detailed in the grant proposal and/or grant agreement or contract.

  • Develops and implements continual assessment plans to ensure monitoring of grant goals and objectives.

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to optimize delivery of project services.

  • Serves as a liaison between the project and project consultants, students, and funding agency.

  • Communicates grant goals to the University/Campus community, campus administrators, faculty, and students.

  • Ensures the compliance of data storage in line with university/grant guidelines, rules, and regulations.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong self-discipline and ability to work independently.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and students.

  • Ability to interact with students and families from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to develop capacity in instructors and staff to work successfully with students of varied experiences and backgrounds.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, educators, parents, civic associations and the general public as necessitated by the work.

  • Knowledge of the design and development of curriculum to support TU CASA activities.

  • Skill in utilizing computer software.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain required reports and records.

  • Develop visual aids and other instructional materials to meet specific training need.

This is a grant-funded position. Grant funded positions are time-limited and are contingent upon sufficient grant funding.
