Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field, with a minimum of 2-3 years of work experience, preferably involving infectious disease epidemiology, maternal and child health and/or biostatistics.

Position Summary:

The ClinEpiDB.org resource is a large, multi-institutional project supporting the integration and exploration of diverse clinical and epidemiological datasets; this project is affiliated with the VEuPathDB.org Bioinformatics Resource Center, which is responsible for developing and providing scientific data-mining web sites used by tens of thousands of researchers to study infectious disease and public health impact worldwide.

As a Scientific Data Specialist, you will join a dynamic and growing team responsible for ensuring that global epidemiologic datasets are accessible to epidemiologists, laboratory researchers, field biologists, clinicians and policy-makers. The successful applicant will work collaboratively as part of a 40+ member team including epidemiologists, biologists, curators, data-loaders, ontologists, user-interface specialists, software developers and outreach staff to present our global user base with intuitive and informative web interfaces for accessing and interrogating large-scale datasets. This position will focus on processing data received from study investigators according to ClinEpiDB SOPs, including tracking data files received from the data providers, managing day-to-day communications to ensure accurate understanding and interpretation of the data sets, working with our ontology team to map variables to display hierarchies and ontology terms, configuring the study using ClinEpiDB presentation tools, and working with data providers to QC the resulting web sites. Effective communication skills are needed, including the ability to coordinate groups from diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds. An understanding of the challenges posed by large-scale epidemiological data is highly desirable. This position may involve some domestic and international travel to provide support at workshops, webinars, and meetings, as well as participation in scientific writing and keeping up-to-date with the pertinent scientific literature. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Effective data management skills including file processing, an understanding of clean data principles and basic univariate measures is needed; experience with data analysis applica­tions (R, SAS, STATA) and relational databases is a plus.

Physical Demands:

This position will involve sitting/standing at a computer for the majority of the workday, and frequent Zoom meeting attendance is needed. This position may involve some domestic and international travel to provide support at workshops, webinars, and meetings.
