Assistant Dean for Campus Life


Knox College seeks an experienced, student-centered educator to provide vision and leadership for a comprehensive campus life program that enhances the quality of student life. The ideal candidate will value a highly engaging, inclusive living and learning environment in which all students feel seen and supported. This full-time, twelve-month position reports to the Dean of Students and is a core member of the Division of Student Development leadership team. On-campus housing is optional.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day management for the Office of Campus Life, including housing and residential life, student activities, fraternity and sorority life, and leadership development programs.
  • Directly supervise two entry-level student affairs professionals and one administrative assistant; provide indirect supervision to 35 resident assistants and support for the campus programming board, fraternity/sorority councils, and a wide array of student organizations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across campus to assist students who may be experiencing academic or personal difficulties.
  • Manage and coordinate housing assignments process for a 1200-bed inventory including room selection, room changes and off-campus requests, keeping meticulous records utilizing The Housing Director (THD) software.
  • Coordinate facility management including residence hall opening/closing, room inventories, and billing. Liaise with Facilities and Campus Safety staff.
  • Participate in three-person Dean-level on-call rotation, responding to after-hours emergencies as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in higher education, student affairs or related field
  • At least four years progressively responsible experience in student affairs with an emphasis on residential life
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, antiracism, and the ability to foster inclusive communities
  • A desire to be highly visible, maintain strong connections and work successfully with students, faculty, staff, families and external constituents
  • Understanding of and appreciation for the small, residential liberal arts college environment
