The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), College of Liberal Arts (CLA), Department of Public Affairs and Security Studies (PASS) seeks a senior colleague with the ability to lead the department in developing and growing its programs. We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s diverse student body for the position of Chair at the Full Professor rank with tenure beginning Fall 2021.

The department is particularly interested in an individual with the vision to build on the existing degree and certificate programs that will capitalize on UTRGV’s unique geographical location in the Rio Grande Valley on the US/Mexico border. We seek an individual who can foster and promote successful collaboration across diverse academic fields.

The position is tenured at the Full Professor rank; the ideal candidate would be responsible for directing a department of five full-time faculty members and several adjunct faculty members . The Department includes an in-person Master of Public Affairs (MPA) with three concentrations (public administration, global security, and public policy) offered via ITV simultaneously on the two main campuses. The department also includes an independent accelerated online MPA program and two undergraduate minors—one in public administration and one in global security studies.

Chair Scope: The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and inclusive excellence for the research, teaching, and service activities of the Department. The Chair supports diversity and inclusion with the faculty in their duties, and advocates for the Department before the College and the University. He or she promotes the program internally and externally, monitors its continued growth and continuously pursues student success at both the graduate and the undergraduate levels. In addition to his or her administrative responsibilities, the Chair continues to pursue research projects and collaborations locally and nationally. This position is a faculty appointment within the department with additional supplemental stipends for chair throughout the fiscal year and offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and reduced teaching responsibilities.
