Your opportunity:

Working directly with the Innovations Team, the Technology Analyst supports commercialization and entrepreneurship activities within the University of Toronto. In collaboration with members of the University community, the incumbent will seek out commercialization opportunities and maintain relationships with industry and other stakeholders to reinforce and promote the reputation of the University of Toronto and the Innovations and Partnerships Office internally, locally, nationally and internationally. For inventions disclosed to the University of Toronto the Technology Analyst will assess the uniqueness and commercial potential of a technology by undertaking market and industry analysis, identifying market receptors and developing marketing material. Ultimately, the incumbent presents findings and makes recommendations for inclusion in the University’s invention portfolio.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation on new products and/or technology to determine commercialization potential
  • Advising inventors on product development steps that will add intellectual value to the existing discovery and enhance its commercial potential
  • Cultivating ongoing, high-profile prospective partnerships that advance strategic agendas
  • Writing grant and investment proposals to acquire proof of concept and product development funding
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in science, engineering and/or business, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience, including at least one (1) year in evaluating early stage technologies (e.g. technical, intellectual property and market due diligence); and at minimum two (2) years’ experience in relationship management and marketing in a business setting.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Strong demonstrated ability tounderstand complex technologies and develop concise, clear synopses of the technologies and gather, formulate and present complex information.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be persuasive and diplomatic with internal and external University stakeholders/partners; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with confidential material and sensitive client interaction issues with tact and discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deal efficiently with deadlines and time constraints.

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Knowledgeable on the application of relevant University policies.
  • Familiarity in interacting with the academic research community and specifically in technology transfer is an asset.
