Your opportunity:

Under general supervision of the Director, the incumbent provides front-line and administrative support for Campus Police. The incumbent will provide front-line office support and will process in person, email and telephone requests for Police, and refer emergency calls to Officer in charge. The incumbent may also serve as secretary to any committees chaired by the Director, and organize meetings and prepare documents, including minutes and agendas for the Committee. The position will require the incumbent, on occasion, to support and refer persons in distress in a professional and empathetic manner that supports the mission of the Campus Police.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Applying established standards when providing access to new users
  • Assistingthe Manager of Physical Security with programming electronic devices such as door access systems, as directed
  • Tracking inventory of equipment, including but not limited to COVID-19 related personal protection equipment
  • Assisting the Manager of Campus Police with clerical duties as directed
  • Disseminating program and/or service information
  • Ensuring staff are scheduled according to program and/or service requirements
  • Providing proactive support to individuals in distress and making referrals to specific university services

+Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a front-line customer service environment with administrative, bookkeeping, and payroll-related functions
  • Experience providing support and providing referrals to people in distress
  • Demonstrated ability to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations and make referrals as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative in application of established guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Ability to deal with the public during highly stressful events and make appropriate referrals
  • Experience adhering to confidentiality is imperative
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of PCs and ability to learn new programs
  • Must be detailed oriented
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Knowledge of security software systems an asset
  • Experience in an academic setting and knowledge of university policies would be an asset

USW Pay Band 10 -- $61,846 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $79,088. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
Prorated Pay Scale Group & Hiring Rate: $30,923 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $39,544
