The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Instructor, Theater Arts in Livermore, Ca.  Applicants will be expected to provide instruction in the fundamentals of stage speech, which should include (but is not limited to): the physiology of voice production; mental imagery in voice production; articulation and enunciation; elements of Standard American Speech; International Phonetics Alphabet; and accents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach beginning through advanced college-level theater classes, including online if required per District, County and/or State orders. Motivate students at all levels and of all backgrounds and abilities, and adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles.
  2. Flexibility to teach classes at times best suited to student need and demand.



Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance OR Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance AND Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities OR the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience teaching all levels of theater (beginning, intermediate, advanced) to diverse student populations
  2. Experience with online instruction
  3. Experience with teaching various genres (classical, contemporary, musical)
  4. Experience with standards and practices for development of speech for the stage
  5. Experience with teaching and using the International Phonetic Alphabet
  6. Experience with teaching Standard American and other dialects for the stage
