The Department of Sociology and Criminology is a department of active, productive scholars in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences with strong ties to the University's College of Law, Graduate School of Social Work, and other professional schools. We offer BA degrees in sociology and criminology.

Position Summary
The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Denver invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor position, with a focus in criminology/socio-legal studies, in our teaching professorial track (non-tenure track), beginning September 1, 2021. The successful candidate will teach eight courses over three quarters (two-three per quarter). Courses will be concentrated in the University common curriculum, which includes Criminology, as well as Social Problems or Introduction to Sociology, First-Year Seminars (writing-intensive courses for freshmen), and Advanced Seminars (writing-intensive courses for juniors and seniors). The candidate should also contribute to our internship course, to our criminology and sociology departmental electives, and to academic advising. Appointments at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor will typically be made initially as a three-year contract. Subsequent renewal and/or promotion to Associate rank is contingent on formal performance review. The Teaching Professorial Series provides opportunity for promotion and advancement within the series (3-year, 5-year, and 7-year contracts).

Essential Functions

  • Teach eight courses per year, including First-Year and advance seminars, university common curriculum courses, and departmental core courses and electives.
  • Contribute to departmental internship course.
  • Provide students in the program with academic advising.

Required Qualifications

  • ABD in Sociology, Criminology, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Sociology, Criminology, or related field.

Salary Range
Salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
