INTRODUCTION TO OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT (OOD):
The Office of Development (OOD) supports the goals and purposes of Stanford University. OOD staff members, working in concert with academic leadership and volunteers, strive to enhance, over the long-term, useful gift support to Stanford. In the process, development staff establish and nurture relationships with students, alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations and associations.

JOB PURPOSE & SUMMARY
Among several presidential initiatives at Stanford University is IDEAL - Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in a Learning Community. Through IDEAL, Stanford intends to achieve significant cultural and institutional change in recruitment, research, education, and engagement.

Aligned with IDEAL, OOD is committed to engaging historically underrepresented and emerging philanthropic communities. OOD's Diversity & Next Generation Giving (D&NG) program leads this effort, employing giving strategies and approaches that reflect the interests, values, and priorities of these philanthropic constituencies. Reporting to the D&NG Director, the Program Manager, Diversity & Next Generation Giving will help Stanford grow lifelong philanthropic relationships with these communities and cultivate a culture of inclusive philanthropy.

In July 2020 the university announced a new fundraising initiative to advance IDEAL priorities. As a member of the D&NG team, the Program Manager will play an important role in this effort.

CORE DUTIES
  • Support fundraising programs and activities focused on engaging, cultivating and soliciting diverse and emerging philanthropic communities.
  • Provide comprehensive support to the Director and Associate Director, including project management, volunteer coordination, event planning, data analysis and complex calendaring.
  • Track and report on program progress against D&NG goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a key point of interface to units within OOD, campus departments and centers, and the Stanford Alumni Association.
  • Serve as a liaison with alumni donors and volunteers.
  • Help staff volunteer committees, including meeting planning, implementation, and follow up.
  • Draft cultivation and stewardship correspondence, confidential briefings, prospect backgrounds and other written materials.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of strategic donor events, campus visits, and high-level donor meetings.
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the D&NG program-including the names of key volunteers and donors-and how it relates to other areas in OOD and the university.
  • Collect, maintain and analyze data, identifying trends and formulating recommendations to achieve program goals.
  • Retrieve information about prospects and donors, review and update records, and generate complex reports using the university external relations database.
  • Build and maintain a network of relevant contacts within the Office of Development and the university in general, and stay informed on current development priorities, university initiatives, and activities.
  • Track budgets and conduct financial projections for department.
  • Prepare gift transmittals and troubleshoot issues with the Development Services department and the Controller's Office.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education:
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects, meeting deadlines and achieving goals.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including cross-cultural competencies.
  • Political acumen to collaborate effectively and diplomatically with diverse constituencies.
  • Strong proficiency with information technology, including Microsoft Office and database systems such as Salesforce and Oracle.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, perseverance and sound judgment.
  • Skills in researching and organizing information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
    Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.
    Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Requires working flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.
