Departmental Overview

The Strategic Projects and Partnerships Coordinator provides leadership, management, and vision to cluster level projects and partnerships for the Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence (CE3), a cluster of over 10 equity student support programs in the Division of Equity and Inclusion. CE3 provides complex and multi-format programs and services to historically marginalized student populations to ensure their successful transition into the university, academic retention/success, degree completion, and pursuit of graduate study and professional careers. These services have a critical impact on the campus' ability to fulfill its mission of equity, access, and inclusion to California's diverse student population.

CE3 services and expertise include solution-focused academic counseling and intervention, assessment of academic needs and addressing academic and non-academic complexities/barriers to academic success; developing individual study plans; creating and fostering academic, social, and professional support networks and communities; credit bearing transition and success courses; academic strategy and enrichment workshops; enhancing academic skills (e.g., research skills, preparation for graduate programs, academic/work life balance); academic and summer internships; service learning internships; student group development; academic achievement awards; scholarships and student scholar programs; student grant and emergency loan programs; outreach, recruitment, and campus yield activities; and community-building events.

Responsibilities
  • Training and Professional Development
    • Serves as campus and cluster subject matter expert regarding holistic academic counseling practices and equity based student support approaches.
    • Provides highly complex analyses across the broad spectrum of CE3 programs and provides in-depth, complex analyses as a specialist in holistic, strengths based academic counseling of historically marginalized college students. Leads the coordination of advanced academic counseling training that occurs in CE3 that is equity-based, specific, and facilitates students' engagement with and success at UC Berkeley.
    • Provides consultation and coaching to CE3 managers and supervisors. Conducts needs and strengths assessment and research to shape training curriculum and individual sessions. Researches and summarizes best practices in the field. Serves as liaison and co-contributor to campus “Manager, Advising Strategy and Training.”
  • Campus and External Partnerships
    • Provides leadership and direction to the coordination and development of CE3 campus and external partnerships.
    • Proposes, leads and/or participates on policy and planning committees and working groups.
    • Cultivates and maintains high level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally requiring discretion and diplomacy in order to negotiate with or persuade officials to adopt proposed solutions and initiatives. Guides and supports partnerships which may include senior campus management, faculty, and/or external constituencies.
    • Works with SED development team to identify and secure funding opportunities for new or existing partnerships.
    • Proposes, leads and/or participates on policy and planning committees and working groups.
  • Program Development and Project Management
    • Leads short term projects and supports ongoing and longer term projects that may evolve into new CE3 units.
    • Ensures that developing programs and projects are based on CE3's core values and principles, while also customized to the needs of historically marginalized students.
    • Collaborates with campus staff, faculty, and administration on new projects and programs that may intersect with non-CE3 functional areas.
    • Coordinates with UDAR and SED development teams to match emerging programs and projects with prospective donors and funding sources.
    • Develops and advocates solutions to gaps in training and issues impacting historically marginalized students, including developing and administering new systems, policies, processes, or programs.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Leads vision and strategic plan for academic counseling competency trainings, professional development, and coaching for CE3 managers and professional staff.
    • Supports the AVC and Executive Director, and works with managers and directors, to facilitate multi-unit strategic planning activities including drafting short and long term vision and plans.
    • Contributes to the broader strategic direction for the CE3.
  • Other duties as assigned
    • May participate in professional development workshops and trainings for their individual growth and learning.
    • May lead or serve on divisional committees or work teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced level trainer, coach, and facilitator in the area of academic counseling training.
  • Demonstrated competencies and advanced knowledge in theories of student development and student-centered and equity-based pedagogies.
  • Knowledge of the transitional, academic, and social needs of specific student populations.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and research designs.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with historically underrepresented ethnic minority communities, first generation college students, low-income students, and other historically marginalized student populations.
  • Experience aligning training efforts with institutional equity mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Knowledge of current educational development trends and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating trainings, workshops, and events.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and sustaining campus partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and sustaining new projects and programs.
  • Advanced experience in group dynamics, facilitation, and training; comprehensive assessment of academic preparation and personal competencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, and administering evaluative instruments for measuring program effectiveness including student-learning objectives.
  • Advanced experience in planning, developing, and administering enrichment programs/projects, academic and personal development seminars, courses, and workshops.
  • Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling and analyzing data, and generating reports.
  • Familiarity with the changing needs, trends, and characteristics of students in higher education.
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience, in related field with five years or more of work experience in a higher education instructional setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with available professional development opportunities and organizations such as NASPA, NACADA, ACPA, and COE.
  • Knowledge in the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching/learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring and advocacy.
  • Knowledge of and experience in conflict mediation, management and intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing funds designated for special programs.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to quickly develop an understanding of University legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of academic support/advising services and policies regarding personal liability and risk assessment.

Other Information

This is a two years contract position. This role is projected to work remotely until at least June 30, 2021.
