Veterinary Assistant, Small Animal Clinical Sciences
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to perform a variety of animal husbandry functions such as general care, feeding, cleaning, exercising, and record keeping of hospital patients. This position is assigned primarily to the Radiation Oncology service and assists clinicians, licensed veterinary technicians, and veterinary students with the care of patients in need of radiation therapy treatments. Assists in performing technical tasks in the clinic such as patient treatments or sample collecting. Performs housekeeping and general clinic duties outside of assigned service area.
Depending on upon qualifications, applicant will be hired at either a level 1 or 2.



QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
This is an entry level position. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have High school diploma or equivalent.  
Preferred Qualifications:

6 months of relevant experience. Knowledge of anesthesia equipment and proper disinfecting techniques. Veterinary Assistant Certification. Advanced knowledge of animal behavior and monitoring. Excellent communication skills. Ability to be proactive in recognizing tasks that need to be done and performing those tasks. Ability to multi-task. Ability to anticipate the needs of technicians and/or clinicians in assigned area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:

Knowledge of basic animal husbandry, behavior, and monitoring.
Knowledge of general clinic and animal area sanitation and disinfection protocols.
Basic animal handling and restraint skills.
Basic computer skills.
Basic verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to adhere to all safety procedures and training as required by the University, the department, and regulatory agencies.
Ability to work under stressful or demanding conditions.
Ability to work with others in a respectful and cooperative manner.
Ability to work overtime and on weekends when necessary to fulfill rotating on-call duties.
